This weekend I was all set for a BBQ with some friends but an aching head, nose, stomach, and tiredness from waking up too early and not being able to get back to sleep put paid to that and I had to cancel.
The kids and I were looking to be off out in the evening too, to Motukarara to meet up with some other friends and watch the fireworks. Thankfully the aches and pains died away so 5 mins before 7 I asked the kids if they wanted to go. Stupid question. So we went. It was at some park there and they put on a few things to make it an evening. Nice evening too. Music, that kids were dancing to, there was a playground, sausage sizzles (BBQ), the now obligatory coffee van, with obligatory queues, bouncy castle, sweeties and toy stall which really sold glowey lights and things. The fire and ambulance were also there. The fireworks were good. Not done by Audrey and my favourite firework guy, Anthony, but not bad. 21:00 and there was a loud bang. We had found a place to put the picnic blanket down right at the front. Poor Bees. She was scared. Jamie wasn't too pleased at the bangs either. My poor overly-sensitive babies. So holding onto Bees so she wouldn't take flight, we watched. I watched and listened, Jamie watched with hands over his ears. And Bees hid. For a bit. Slowly she got the courage to watch and by the end she was enjoying it. Loud bangs and all. At 21:30 there was a mad push to get out so we stayed back and enjoyed the bonfire which some pyrotechnic through boxes into, setting off more fireworks. Not sure if it was a special treat to those staying or whether it was a mistake. We left about 22:00, and got home with 2 sleepy children in the back.
We never did meet up with our friends. Not sure if they went.
Still, I managed to hoover the house, wash the sheets, wash the kids' car seats and some floor mats and other such things.
Sunday and after a little texting on the phone, we organised a BBQ at home for us and the friends that we went to stay with in Hanmer Springs. So a little tidying up and out came the garden furniture. Perhaps for the last time this year. :-) Also some gardening, planting my cucumber and courgettes and a spot of weeding. They arrived a little later than lunch time so we held off as all the kids had eaten a little anyway. Sitting outside, chatting and drinking whilst the kids were inside, outside, in the fields, and generally all over the place. We ate about 15:00. I nicely burnt the sausages but everything else was OK. More chatting and the kids jumped on the trampoline, ran through the mowed paths in the field I'd made (I made the whole field!). Just as they were all leaving the southerly breeze that had been gently flowing through for an hour picked up and started to blow. Great timing. It was a lovely day.
Bees had another visit from the tooth fairy. Only just in time too as she woke whilst the transaction was taking place. Rather slack of me really but I forget these things. The tooth fairy tends to take a while to arrive at our place. :-)
