Container Shops

I took Monday off this week as Friday was a holiday in sunny Canterbury. I always like to extend the holiday periods when I can. So after dropping the kids off at school it was into town to drop the car off for a service and a warrant. From there I had a wander into the city, checking out all the empty spaces and half broken buildings. The centre, with all the newly planted grasses, trees and container shops is.... funky. Very nicely done I thought and for 8 months since the DAMAGE caused in Feb, I'd say it's been put up quite fast. I found it funny that there was no graffiti in the container toilets but we shall see how long the untouched chipboard walls last on that note. I had a coffee there. Sat down and was about to read some downloaded article on my iPod when , bong, I received post. Free WiFi. Nice. so I checked the online stuff I usually check whilst I was there because my internet at home has been going slower than the real post. I could have phoned the Library and asked them to send a map over and would have been able to plot a route to the city faster than it would have taken to go to Google maps and do it that way. Internet at home can be non existent. Especially on weekends. What does that tell you? Anyway, after a look around - there's not much to see really - I wandered to South City Shopping Centre and checked out the shops there, making notes of Christmas presents for the family. After that I went on meet up with a friend for lunch at The Coffee House on Montreal Street. Then onto have a wander around Hagley Park and check out some roses that I could use in my garden. I have 2 that would be nice I think. Dublin Bay, a deep red climber and Old Master, a pinkish red poppy looking bush rose. It would look nice against white.
After that it was back to South City to get the presents and free WiFi and a strawberry milkshake and then through the container shops again before going off to pick up my car, which failed its warrant. Bummer! Just a couple of things but it'll cost. :-) Still, there you go. It's my hobby.
