So what have I been up to these last few days. Nothing much due to the earthquake. The picture is probably one of the most severely hit buildings of Canterbury.
Bees and I were awake anyway when it hit. She had come into my bedroom 20 mins earlier after a nightmare so we were slowly drifting off again when I felt the earth shake. Ooh. A little earthquake I thought. Oh!. OH NO! and Bees and I scrambled under the bed. Jamie called out and Jamie said he was already in the doorway. We waited for the first shocks to subside before I got out and got Jamie to come under the bed with us. I then got my emergency kit out (not quite complete yet) and got the dynamo torch/radio and tuned in. We stayed there, sort of half awake half asleep, feeling some of the aftershocks until about 07:00 when we got up and started to get sorted for the day.Jamie was loving it. Very exciting for him, however Bees was not enjoying it at all and she was shaking alot. I was halfway in between. Interested, fascinated by the power but a tad nervous at what could happen.
Dean was supposed to come out and help me secure the fence between the trees and the paddocks with the sheep in on Saturday but due to unforeseen circumstances, he couldn't make it. I had a go myself. I could do it but it'll take 3-4 times as long. It really needs someone else there to help out. I had a go because we had no power. This meant not TV, no internet, no water. I was expecting to to be off for 2-3 days but the power came back on about 19:30 Saturday evening.
The Kids decided to go with Nan to her house for the day which was good. As it was a very nice day outside, I weeded over a couple of vegetable beds. They're ready for planting although one already has potatoes within. I'm thinking of sticking parsnips and carrots in the other one.
I have a load of seeds that are old and may not germinate anymore so I'm thinking of sticking those somewhere and seeing what happens. Not sure where to put those just yet though. I don't want to mess up my vegetable beds with stuff that might not happen.
Saturday was a long day. The kids didn't want to go to bed so we all watched a film until 22:00 when we all made our way to my bed to sleep. Needless to say, I didn't get a decent nights sleep. Kids poking me in my back with their knees and elbows. There were a couple of shakes through the night but nothing major.
Sunday we decided to have a lazy day. We watched a film together and felt the earth move again. Spooky possums!
I don't know why and perhaps he's ill but Jamie has been feeling very sleepy these past couple of days. Maybe it's the change in pressure too as we're now in a strong Norwester. He seems a bit odd.
